Sultry or pin up style starts with the perfect outfit, hair and makeup. Sultry outfits include lingerie, a man’s shirt, a profession based items or uniform, etc. Pin up outfits can include a 40’s style dress, high waisted shorts or panties, a full bra, a 40s style military or nursing uniform, etc.
Sultry hair can be either straight or curled to suit what you will be wearing and any particular era you admire. For example, if you enjoy the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s you may go with more of a firm curl. If you want more of a modern era, you would go with a softer curl or straight hair.
Pin up hair styling can be a complete, tight up do or partial up do with patriot curls on one or both sides. Pin up hair is very distinctive and the easiest way to identify a pin up girl.
Your makeup will also be fashioned after the era you are striving to emulate. More modern looks could include lips that are more pink or nude or pastel. Classic eras would call for a red lip. The eyes will almost always have heavy makeup so that the camera can capture the details under the lighting. At first it may feel awkward to position your hands and body in certain ways, but a great photographer will not lead you wrong. Each style has particular poses that capture the character of the era you are posing for. For example, pin up poses generally will require your legs to be together and more of a smiling or smirking face. The poses are playful and flirtatious. Positions are created to emphasize the curves of a woman. In a Sultry photo shoot the photographer will take some close up beauty pictures that with a soft smile or relaxed slightly open mouth. Some classic sultry poses include lying on your side or back with interesting camera angles that will capture your curves or suggestive angles. Some poses will focus on a favorite body part. Other poses can create the illusion of nudity with implied nude posing.
